Whether you refer to it as a Semaglutide maintenance dose, a micro-dose, or just a smaller dose, it seems that it's now been introduced and tested that rather than going off Semaglutide cold-turkey, it might be best to taper down over the course of 8-12 weeks once you reach your goal weight.
What happens when you stop Semaglutide?
When you stop taking Semaglutide, your appetite and cravings will likely return, leading to potential weight regain. Essentially, your body will revert back to its previous eating patterns and metabolic state, with no withdrawal symptoms but a possible return to pre-Semaglutide weight and blood sugar levels.
Key points about stopping compound Semaglutide:
Increased appetite-
One of the most noticeable effects is a return to normal hunger cues, which can lead to increased calorie intake and weight gain.
Blood sugar fluctuations-
People with diabetes may experience a rise in blood sugar levels after stopping Semaglutide.
No withdrawal symptoms-
While there are no known withdrawal symptoms associated with Semaglutide, some individuals might feel discomfort due to returning hunger pangs.
Importance of gradual tapering-
To minimize the impact of stopping Semaglutide, it's recommended to consult your doctor about gradually reducing your dosage rather than abruptly stopping.
Microdose GLP 1
New research presented at the European Congress on Obesity (ECO) in Venice, Italy has explored the benefits of giving personalized doses of semaglutide to patients taking part in weight loss programs and tapering them off the medication when they reach their target weight. The study is by researchers at Embla, a digital weight loss clinic based in both Copenhagen, Denmark and London, UK, led by Dr Henrik Gudbergsen, the lead researcher and Embla’s Chief Medical Officer.
Tapering Semaglutide after Weight Loss
In the EASO article, "Is coming off Semagltuide slowly the key to preventing weight regain?," the study showed that once the participants were at their goal weight they began to "taper off" semaglutide. This involved gradually reducing their dosse to zero over an average of nine weeks, while still receiving coaching on diet and exercise.
The researchers conclude that patients who tapered off semaglutide maintained a stable body weight for the first 26 weeks.
“A patient’s appetite returns when they stop taking the drug and if they stop taking it suddenly, they may find it hard to resist their cravings. However, if they stop slowly, and have expanded their awareness and understanding of healthy lifestyle behaviors and eating habits, their hunger and satiety will be more manageable, making it easier for them to maintain a healthy weight."
What is a Semaglutide Maintenance Dose
As with all things and Semaglutide, it's your medical doctor that determines your dosage and the rate at which you increase it or not. Same will go with a maintenance dose.
If you and your doc decide that you would be better served by tapering off Semaglutide over the course of few weeks or months, then that some medical professional will decide what dosage you should take. It will likely be more like the first month or possible a bit less than your first dose.
Where can you get a maintenance dose of Semaglutide?
Not all online Semaglutide providers offer a maintenance dose of Semaglutide. However, ShedRx does specifically speak to a maintenance dose and offers it as one of the three packages they can prescribe. The maintenance dose as an injection is $199 and if you would prefer the oral drops, the cost is $229.
LIfe after Semaglutide
Frankly, I am concerned around how I will feel when I'm ready to stop taking Semaglutide. However, now that I know that going into a maintenance phase could be just the approach that I'll need to be able to gradually get used to not having Seminaglutide in my system does make me feel much better.
Anything that is recommended to be done cold-turkey is always an uncomfortable feeling for me.
